One important thing. Some people tend to have funky email ids like "madmax" or "cute_barbie", etc.
Kindly keep your email id's formal. The basic format for email id should be "<FirstName>.<LastName>@abcd.com" OR "<FirstName>_<LastName>@abcd.com".
Will post a format of the resume which we had adhered to.
Cheers!
Some tips :
1. Fonts. use a standard, consitent font through out.( like Callibri, Verdana etc)
2. Spelling mistakes,typos.
3. Completeness : When you write about a project be crisp and precise about what work you have done. In case of a web project : If its hosted somewhere its accessible, feel free to add a URL( you might as well earn some extra brownie points If the person cares to visit the the URL)
4. Get a 3rd party review done after you are ready with a final copy of your resume
Will add some more if I remember some.

DOB should be included, probably below the Name. No harm in adding the Nationality too.

Nikhil

Should we include some personal info in the CV?
Like DOB, nationality and so on..
Permalink Reply by Jagannath Patil on March 8, 2011 at 10:01pm Hello everyone,
First of all thank you very much for all the inputs on making a CV. With all your help I have prepared a CV of mine which is to be submitted in college for placement activities.I have attached it below.
Kindly review it and suggest me any modifications required.
I have some doubts which I am mentioning below –
Waiting for reviews.
Thanks,
jagz
I'll address your doubts first Jagz.
1. It's recommended to have some symmetry in your C.V. That's the reason why I had placed only the address (which takes at least 4 - 5 lines) on one side and the Name, DOB, Mobile and Email id (which collectively take 4 -5 lines). There's no hard and fast rule about it, though.
2. According to me, you as a fresher, do not need to include the references section.
3. Never print your resume back to back.
Now coming to your resume... I'm pointing out these things because I do know a bit about the interpretations recruiters can have by taking a look at a resume.
1. Reduce the font size of your name.
2. Please ask Kaushik specifically if it's ok if you have the Sun Certification logo.
3. There are some typos (eg. 'persuit' should be spelled as 'pursuit')
4. Try and keep your education details in a tabular form.
5. I don't think that you should mention yourself as a "Born" leader. That might give a hint of over-confidence to the recruiter. Try not to put in the Strengths section. If you do, then put in the "Weaknesses" section too :-)
6. Try to cover up the page from left to right and please don't leave and indentation on the left and cover up the right side(as is done in your resume).
Believe me, it doesn't look very formal.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Nikhil

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I have followed them and made changes. Please let me know if its perfect now or need to work up more. I am attaching the updated CV along this reply at the bottom.
@nikhil-
about Strengths section i had read or overheard someone that we should always mention our strengths in a resume but not weakness. Although we should be ready with them to explain in an interview where they will surely ask after seeing your strengths. SWOT analysis stuff. so is it still ok to put that section or you really feel that it should be removed ?
About logo i am still waiting for Kaushik`s review :(
@vishal - i didn`t get the point about mentioning marks in descending order. Does that mean i should put my bcs marks first and then SSC and then HSC ?
Also is it ok about the logo ? In the documentation provided with it, they had clearly mentioned that we can use it in our resume. Is it not a good idea for a fresher ? is it looking a showoff ?
@nikhil @vishal - In the education details is it necessary to put exact percentage or just CLASS is enough?
